My Guilty Pleasure

Jun 18 2009

I really hate to admit this. But I have been watching.
“I am a celebrity, get me out of here”
It’s so terrible, but I can’t stop watching it.
I am amazed by what a train wreck that  Janice Dickinson is.
From her swollen lips, to her general attitude.
I feel sorry for everyone else in the jungle stuck with her.

So do you watch this show , or is it just me ??

The Scenic Route by Binnie Kirshenbaum -The Book to read this Summer

Jun 03 2009

I highly recommend The Scenic Route by Binnie Kirshenbaum .

As I write this blog post , I keep on coming up with all the reasons why I enjoyed the book. And  then, My browser crashes..

Of course, I didn’t save it , while i was composing. So I start over  and I find other reason why the book is so special.

This is amazon’s description:

Divorced, alone, and unexpectedly unemployed, Sylvia Landsman flees to Italy, where she meets Henry, a wistful, married, middle-aged expatriate. Taking off on a grand tour of Europe bankrolled with his wife’s money, Henry and Sylvia follow a circuitous route around the continent—as Sylvia entertains Henry with stories of her peculiar family and her damaged friends, of dead ducks and Alma Mahler. Her narrative is a tapestry of remembrances and regrets…and her secret shame: a small, cowardly sin of omission. Yet when the opportunity arises for Sylvia and Henry to do something small but brave, the refrain “if only” returns to haunt her, leaving Sylvia with one more story of love lived and lost.”

To me , Binnie Kirshenbaum Book is like a very good  bottle of wine. It is simple but complex with lots of layers.

BooksNJ 6/14 @ Paramus,NJ Library. Celebrate Books & Readers

Jun 02 2009

BOOKSNJ AT PARAMUS PUBLIC LIBRARY
BCCLS Welcomes Acclaimed Authors and Avid Readers Alike

The Paramus Public Library and the Bergen County Cooperative Library
System (BCCLS)
are proud to announce BooksNJ2009, a celebration of books and the readers
who love  them, on Sunday, June 14 from 1 to 5 pm. A classic rock n’ roll
performance by The  Retros will wrap up the festival beginning at 5:30 pm.

The festival will showcase writers from the state of New Jersey and
invites all  lovers of literature. You can expect a parade of popular and critically
acclaimed authors born and bred in the Garden State. Modeled after the annual
National Book  Festival in Washington, DC, there will be outdoor areas devoted to poetry,
fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, and books for young adults.
Participants can attend panel discussions on a variety of topics and meet
the  authors up close and personal. Other activities include storytelling,
author  readings, a poetry slam, book signings, and much more. Thanks to New York
Life’s  sponsorship, the Children’s ID Bus will also be at the festival, providing
free ID  cards.
So far over 90 authors have committed to attend, and more are signing on
as word  spreads and June 14 approaches. We are excited to welcome some of the best
and the  brightest in the area:
– Sung Woo, first-time novelist who has received terrific reviews for his
first  novel, Everything Asian, about a Korean family in New Jersey
– Chris Grabenstein, whose mysteries are set at the Jersey shore
– Vince Gargiulo, whose book about Palisades Amusement Park is a
perennial favorite
– George Witte, Editor-in-Chief of St. Martin’s Press and published poet
– Susan Beth Pfeffer, winner of a Garden State Book Award and YA One Book
NJ 2009
for her novel, Life as We Knew It
– Joshua Henkin, author of Matrimony, which was one of the New York Times
Top 100
Books of the Year for 2007
– Steve Doocy – author and anchor on FOX-TV
– Dan Dahler – author ad CBS-TV news anchor
– Mary Jane Clark, best-selling mystery writer

It’s no coincidence that BooksNJ is happening in 2009. BCCLS marks its
30th anniversary this year. What better way to celebrate than to bring together
the  talent of authors and the passion of readers? After all, that’s the
mission of the  Paramus Public Library, and every member library of BCCLS.
BooksNJ2009 is being sponsored in part by Berkeley College, the NJ State
Library,  New York Life, and the Town News.

Unsigned Vintage Costume Jewelry – Bargain Beauties

May 27 2009

Yes you read me right, Bargain Beauties.

If  you had two pieces of identical costume jewelry, but one was marked Trifari or Haskell on the back, which do you think would sell for more?

The Signed Piece.

The Ironic thing is , that sometimes the two identical pieces were made by the same company  but sold to a department store as Their Brand.

Sort of like,  XXX  Bread  and the store brand. Bothe are made in the same plant , except one get the stop and Shop Label , the othere get the   Name Brand.

SO, next time you see a pin , necklace or Ring that you like, and It’s not signed. Examine it for quality and Buy it if you love  it.
