I Love ,Love Vintage Jewelry since I was a little girl playing in my mom’s jewelry box. But I stopped wearing it on a day to day basis, since I became a Mom. It became something that I just wore on special occasions.

A Walk in Northern Manhattan.
Today, My Family, friends and Hikers belonging to the New York Hiking Club took the “Lili Memorial Walk” in Honor of my Aunt Lili who had researched this Walk
. It was 3-4 miles of ups and downs ,starting at the Hispanic Society of America Museum. It was a amazing hike full of information about Washington Heights.
Here are a few highlights.
We saw the Grave of John James Audubon at Trinity Cemetery.
Another highlight of the day, was Wooden two Story Houses on Sylvan Terrace.
New Reseach for People with Parkinson’s disease.
My Father suffered from Parkinson Disease . He started with a small tremor in his hand, tha gradually got worse as the disease progressed. He became bent over and had troubles walking and moving. His body would not do what his mind wanted. But sometimes, when the moon aligned with Sun or he took his medications in the right way with the right foods, He could walk fine, and the tremor would lessen. It gave us hope into the future for him and other people suffering with Parkinson’s .
The Future Is Now. There will be a Cure in my lifetime !
Sergey Brin has funded a study to reseach genotypes of People with Parkinson’s. There will be a database of 10.000 people who have parkinson disease.
From WiredScience(http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/03/science-as-sear.html)
“On Thursday, 23andMe will announce a project with the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center to enroll up to 10,000 people with Parkinson’s Disease, get them genotyped using the 23andMe platform, and issue them a survey to fill in the phenotypic information. That physical “end result” correlation to their genotypic information should make for a rich and fruitful database, ripe for interrogation. With members’ permission, it will be searched and probed for possible correlations and implications.
Ten thousand is a big number for Parkinson’s disease, and researchers hope such a large population will allow them to draw meaningful inferences. (Linda Avey, 23andMe cofounder, describes the effort here).
The idea is to create a genetic database around one disease — Parkinson’s — that is robust enough to answer lots of questions that get into minutiae: If this isn’t a “genetic disease” (typically brought on purely by genetic cause), then what are the fractions of effects caused by our genomes? It’s a complicated question, but if we’re really going to apply predictive medicine, we need to understand all the possible inputs that have ramifications in a multitude of outputs.
This is, in effect, the thing that’s been talked about for about five years now: Googling our genomes. And it’s not surprising that behind this landmark endeavor is Google, or at least its co-founder, Sergey Brin. Brin, who has said he has a genetic risk for Parkinson’s, has funded the study and promised to give 10,000 people their genomic data for just $25 each (the 23andMe service regularly costs about $400). So that’s at least a $4 million commitment, at least at the going rate of genotyping — and that’s not counting the backend research that will take place. Brin will participate in the study.”

New Jersey Sharing Network saving Lives through Organ & Tissue donations.
Last Friday Night I attend a Gala honoring members of New Jersey Sharing Network in Somerset
Today, there are over 100,000 Americans registered with the United Network for Organ Sharing on transplant waiting lists.
* Every year, an estimated 6,000 people die while waiting
for organ transplants.
* In 1988, 4,080 people donated organs after death. In 2006, that number has nearly doubled to 8,024.
* Organ donation occurred in only .0025% of all deaths in
the United States.
* One individual who donates after death can provide organs, corneas, skin, bone and tissue for 50 or more people in need.
* In 2006, there were 28,931 organ transplants performed
in the United States.
* An estimated 220,000 Americans are treated with transplanted bone and tissue each year. Tissues include tendons and ligaments, skin used to treat burns, heart valves and eye corneas.
* About 46,000 cornea transplants are performed annually,
with more than 5,000 people waiting for donated corneas.
* The largest number of children who need organ transplants are waiting for kidney donations.
* Almost 44% of people waiting for organ transplants are between the ages of 18 and 49.
* By gender, 57% of Americans waiting for donated organs
are male; 43% are female.
* African-Americans, who represent 27% of the national population, receive more than 40% of all kidney transplants. Because of specific medical conditions, including diabetes and high blood pressure, African-Americans suffer a disproportionately high rate of End Stage Renal Disease (kidney failure). There are currently more than 24,000
African Americans waiting for kidney or kidney-pancreas transplants nationwide.
* Survival rates for organ recipients continue to rise. The one year survival rate for kidney recipients is 95%, for heart recipients, 85%, for liver recipients, 77%, and for pancreas recipients, almost 77%. Between 1996 and 2001, one year survival rates for lung recipients increased by almost 34%.
* There is no cost to be an organ and tissue donor.
Donation is a gift.
In New Jersey you can:
1. Make it a license to save lives. Make the donor designation on your New Jersey driver’s license or ID card. This is the most important and direct way to make your wishes known. The words “Organ Donor” will appear on the front of your license and will be included in your computer record with the Motor Vehicle Commission. For more information or to sign up to be notified when an online registry is available, visit www.donatelifenj.org.
2. You should tell your family about your decision so they understand your wishes. If there is no designation on your driver’s license or other legal means of donor designation, the final decision about organ and tissue donation will be made by your family. Your wishes can also be made through advance directives and living wills.
3. Until you get to MVC and make your donor designation, you can also sign and carry an organ donor card. Please note that while the donor card allows you to legally express your wishes, it must be accessible at the time of your passing as it is not connected to any registry.
